Life Together
Northern Virginia life is hectic: soccer practices, dance rehearsals, parent meetings, and dinner is eaten in the car, if it gets eaten. That is most nights of the week. But we want to offer one night for you where everyone is together.
Life Together is our attempt at a different way of living. Everyone in your house comes to the same building at the same time. We feed you a real meal. Your kids are known and taught by people who are glad they came. You get an hour to think, and to be with adults who will ask how you actually are. Then you all go home together, in time for bed without the late night.
How the night goes
Dinner
A hot meal on the table made for you. Come straight from work or from school pickup. Nobody has to cook but we do try to clean up together as a family.
Everyone to their class
Babies through adults, each age in their own room with their own teacher. One hour.
Home, or stay and talk
The night ends when you say it ends, so you can get children to bed. Most people linger. That is usually the best part.
Where everybody goes at 6:30
- Babies and preschool
- Cared for by people who will learn their names and use them.
- Elementary kids
- Their own class, their own teachers, and the friends they will still have in high school.
- Youth
- A space that belongs to them, and an adult who is passionate about God's word and raising up the next generation of faithful followers.
- Adults
- Teaching, then small groups. More on that below.
What the adults are studying this fall
Our pastor, Eric Gilchrest, is teaching a class called How to Study the Bible. Eric holds a PhD in Biblical Studies and spent years teaching college and seminary students. This is not a seminary class, but it is just as thoughtful. It is for anyone who has opened the Bible and not known where to start, or read a passage and thought, what am I supposed to do with that.
Every night ends in small groups. Men together and women together. That is where there is time to talk about your real week and to pray for each other by name. It matters as much as the teaching does.
The practical details

- Wednesdays, 6:00 to 7:30 pm, beginning September 16 through November 18

- Dinner
- $5 a person, $20 maximum for a whole family. Nothing to pay ahead of time. Bring it with you the first night, or don't, and settle up later.

- Every age, from babies to grandparents. Come as a whole family or come on your own.

New to South Run?
This is a good night to start. You do not need to know anyone and you do not need to bring anything. Come eat with us.
Email us at SRBC@southrun.org and one of us will reach out before your first Wednesday, so you will know where to park, which door to use, and exactly where to take your kids. You will not walk in cold.
One line is plenty. Tell us how many are coming and the ages of your kids, and we will have a seat and a spot in the right classroom ready. You are welcome to come without emailing first, but it helps us cook enough and it means someone will be watching for you.
