Don’t Forget Where You Came From
Christianity rests upon a foundation layered with grace upon grace, free gift upon free gift. It is by
grace that we are saved. It is by grace that we are reunited with God. It is by grace that all good gifts
are given. In a culture that values self-reliance and determination, it is easy to forget that who we are
in Christ is by grace and grace alone. In 2 Samuel 7, God reminds David that he too has received a
tremendous amount of grace. It is God who pulled him from the field keeping the sheep and placed
him as king over the nation of Israel. And it is by grace that God makes an eternal covenant with
David, a covenant in which Israel participates, a covenant that is ultimately fulfilled in Jesus' kingship.
The Bible records a history of grace upon grace, grace that meets us at the cross where Jesus' death
is the gift that inaugurates the redemption of the world.
