In the final sermon of a five-week series on SRBC values, we discuss what it means for our church to be a sanctuary. The word sanctuary has a variety of connotations and the breadth of the word is appropriate here. A sanctuary is a place of worship, where humanity comes to worship God and the unity of the two is felt. A sanctuary is a sacred place, a holy place, a place set apart. A sanctuary is a safe place, a place of peace where the evils of the world are held at bay. A sanctuary of trees is a restful place where the speed of the city is replaced by the slow and steady growth of nature. A sanctuary is a place of rest where one can put down life's worries and heal. South Run Baptist Church seeks to be a sanctuary in this vast array of meaning.
