Today's passage, Matt 25:14-30, is as much a riddle as it is a parable. Two men are applauded for doubling the money given to them. But to the man with the least money, it is taken from him, and he is cast out. And Jesus concludes the story with a riddle of a punch line: "to everyone who has will more be given, and he will have an abundance. But from the one who has not, even what he has will be taken away." Far from a teaching about dollars and cents, it seems the key to understanding this riddle is to ask what counts as currency in the kingdom of heaven. When we figure out what Jesus thinks is valuable, we should replicate that over and over again.
