A Time to Mourn, a Time to Dance
In 2 Samuel 6, the ark of the covenant takes center stage as David takes the ark into Jerusalem where it will stay for hundreds of years. At first glance, the entrance of the ark into Jerusalem looks like a victory story for David, and, in some ways, it is. But upon closer inspection, the story has some twists and turns that are unexpected. Some complications that add to the ambiguity of David’s rise to power. Nevertheless, David dances before God, and if we grant him the benefit of the doubt that we would have others grant us, we can see that David truly rejoices in God’s presence. Something we would do well to imitate.
